This month, I finished only two books but DNF’ed at least five. So while there’s not much to report, at least I’ve reduced the number of painfully mediocre books I dragged through only to forget what they were about the next day.

Victorian Psycho, Virginia Feito

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘It fascinates me, the fact that humans have the capacity to mortally wound one another at will, but for the most part, choose not to.’

A rare gem that I enjoyed in all its delicious aspects. It’s a sharp, funny, and dark story of a governess who arrives at her new job with some seriously sinister motives.

I love a female psychopath for a main character, so it was already a promising book for me, but I also have to highlight the meticulous detalization of the setting that makes it memorable.

Killer Potential, Hannah Deitch

⭐️⭐️⭐️

An SAT tutor finds her employers murdered and sets out on a run with a woman she frees from their mansion.

This book fits its title in more than one way because it also has killer potential with a premise like that. However, I found the execution of the idea somewhat lacking. It was a bit drawn out, and I guessed the main plot twist at the very start of the book (which is rare for me; I’m generally bad at that), so I didn’t like the story as much as I’d hoped.
