I kept balancing on the verge of a reading slump the whole month, so I was trying to get myself out of it with some lighter reads and thrillers. It worked, though some of the books I’d forgotten as soon as I finished them.

Skin Deep, Liz Nugent

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nugent is now, without a doubt, one of the authors whose future books I’ll read without even checking the annotations. This one focuses on the story of a malignant narcissist who goes through life consistently ruining others’.

Pretty Girls, Karin Slaughter

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s quite hard to shock or impress me at this point, but this thriller is fucked up. That’s all I’ll say about it.

Hemlock & Silver, T. Kingfisher

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Cosy (ish?) fantasy novel about a poisoner who is tasked with figuring out what ailment is killing a princess. There’s some romance involved, and the book is supposed to be a ‘reimagining’ of Snow White. I did like the vibes, and overall found this read enjoyable.

Thirst Trap, Gráinne O’Hare

⭐️⭐️⭐️

A group of freshly-30-year-olds is struggling with life and the loss of their friend. Full of parties, uncertainty, drama, and disappointments, this novel is a relatable reflection of entering your thirties just to realize how much farther you are from where you planned on being.

His & Hers, Alice Feeney

⭐️⭐️⭐️

A fast-paced thriller that managed to snap me out of my recent inability to finish a book. As always, Alice Feeney is great at flawed characters and flipping the story upside down.

Happy People Don’t Live Here, Amber Sparks

⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘It’s not wisdom to understand how things are, said Fern. It just sucks.’

This one is full of odd characters, ghosts, and secrets. A quick and chill read, though I’d already forgotten most of it.

Welcome to Dead House, R. L. Stine

⭐️⭐️⭐️

I suddenly remembered that I loved these little horror books when I was a child, so I decided to revisit the first one in the series. Even though it wasn’t quite as exciting to read now, I still enjoyed it.

Never Saw Me Coming, Vera Kurian

⭐️⭐️

Oh, how excited I was to find a thriller about a psychopath participating in a university study with other psychopaths. Then they start getting killed. Chaos ensues. It sounded SO fun, but turned out underwhelming. And that ending, JFC, that was just embarrassing.
