There were a few good books this month, and then a lot of ‘popcorn’ reads (which isn’t necessarily bad since it was exactly what I aimed for). Overall, a nice ending for summer.

Unhinged in the exact way I love. The MC is absolutely vile.

An infuriating tale of domestic abuse.

A man who’s deeply in debt to the yakuza takes a job as a private chef to a mysterious woman, and it turns out to be more than he’d bargained for. It was interesting, albeit predictable.

The Price of Honey, Liane Moriarty

A short story about a billionaire’s funeral, with all his wives (current and ex) meeting there.

The Dinner Party, Freida McFadden

A choose-your-ending adventure. While it uses all of the genre cliches, it is short and entertaining.

When I Kill You, B. A. Paris

One of those forgettable thrillers that instantly vanish from my brain after I read the last page.

A wild ride that had me on the brink of a rage fit several times.

The Housewife, Natalie Barelli

Another ‘popcorn’ read that I’d already forgotten. It was fine, though.

Underwhelming, but my high expectations are mostly responsible for that.

I found this one curious in premise but snooze-inducing in execution.

Such A Nice Girl, Andrea Mara

Way too long a story of two missing best friends, one of whom might have killed the other. It was fun in places, yet the plot twist was straight up ridiculous.

Nine Lives, Catherine Steadman

⭐️⭐️⭐️

The idea this starts with is nothing I’ve seen before: a woman moves into a new home. She soon discovers that something extremely sinister is being done to another woman through a little camera she’d attached to her outdoor cat’s collar. Everyone seems suspicious; there are a lot of secrets to uncover. However, the ending falls flat.
