I was very excited to read most of these, and they didn’t disappoint (for the most part). Forgive me if the reviews are even shorter than usual this month. I have 0 extra time for anything these days.

The Tainted Cup, Robert Jackson Bennett

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘That’s the problem with figuring shit out—eventually you run into someone who’d prefer all their shit remained thoroughly unfigured.’

It was an unexpected discovery for me, but I was really impressed with the quirky world, characters, and an exciting mystery.

Garlic & the Vampire, Bree Paulsen

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An extremely cute graphic novel about sentient vegetables whose new neighbour is a vampire.

Kiss Slay Replay, Rachel Harrison

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m not normally a fan of time loops, but Rachel Harrison has proven once again to be one of my favourite authors for a reason. This campy (both figuratively and literally) horror novel was excellent entertainment for an evening.

The Devil and Mrs. Gooch, Oliver Darkshire

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘She had the bearing of a woman who spoke to herself sometimes, who’d spent so long without an equal that she really had no choice but to keep her own counsel.’

This is like a darker variety of cosy fantasy, and I found it very interesting, though I’d enjoyed book 1 a tad more. Love the author’s writing, too.

Brokeula, Michael J. Seidlinger

⭐️⭐️

I was so hyped for this short story. The premise sounds absolutely amazing. That’s why I was so sad to discover that I did not vibe with it at all. Maybe it’s because it was too on-the-nose; maybe the writing was just not my taste.

Check out my book!
